When did you first start thinking about surrogacy?
I first started thinking about surrogacy shortly after we had our son, Ollie. I began nannying for a family after his birth and the mother shared her IVF story with me. After hearing about her struggles I started looking into egg donation and surrogacy. We knew we didn't want any more biological children (we would love to foster or potentially adopt later in life), so it made sense, but I decided to hold off for a couple years to make sure we wouldn't change our mind about wanting more biological children. The thought has kept coming back up, and now that we are definitely not having more babies of our own, we decided to move forward with surrogacy.
Was there someone in your life who inspired you thinking about starting the process?
Yes! Like I mentioned, my first nanny family went through IVF, and hearing her story inspired me to look into surrogacy.
Do you have a friend who has been a gestational carrier (may be the same answer as above!)
No, I don't know anyone who has done this.
What are you most excited about with a potential surrogacy journey?
I am excited about being matched with a family and fulfilling this role for them and being able to experience pregnancy and birth again.
What are you most unsure/anxious about with a potential surrogacy journey?
I am anxious to see how the relationship will play out with the intended parents and how much or little involvement they will have in the process. I am also anxious to see how our son reacts!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your family.
My husband and I have our son Ollie, and two dogs Niko and Chacha. We live near Denver in Colorado and while I am a doula, my husband works in construction and restoration. Our son is turning 4 this month and is the coolest person we know.
