When did you first start thinking about surrogacy?
I started thinking about surrogacy when I was about 18 years old.
Was there someone in your life who inspired you thinking about starting the process?
When I was 18 years old my sister (who is 5 years older than me) was told she was unable to have children due to medical reasons. It was then that I started thinking of ways I could help her. Surrogacy came to mind and I started really thinking about it for her and for friends. It was just always on my mind as I continued to learn about it and hear of others stories of infertility and journey struggles.
Do you know anyone who has been a gestational carrier?
I currently do not know anyone personally who has been a GC.
What are you most excited about with a potential surrogacy journey?
I am most excited about sharing that unforgettable journey with a family and having that life long connection/ relationship. Being able to assist people with creating the family they dream of is one of the most amazing things I could hope to offer the world.
What are you most unsure/anxious about with a potential surrogacy journey?
I am slightly anxious regarding being able to pass the additional requirements. I am currently matched, however with still having to undergo medical testing I am nervous something will 'go wrong'. I don't think I will stop being anxious until that family has their baby in their arms. It 100% comes from a place of compassion and love, I want to complete a surrogacy journey, and until I do, I will continue to be anxious and excited regarding each phase of it. I think that is normal for someone longing to be a GC. With something you've wanted for so many years and having to wait so long for, there are many unknowns that keep you up thinking sometimes. I think its healthy and normal for my anxiety - that alone tells me that this is something I am pursuing for the right reasons.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your family, if comfortable.
I am solo parent, me and my daughter are very close as a result. We enjoy kayaking and camping and cannot wait to start our favorite summer pastimes.
