Tell us a bit about yourself and your family.
I currently live in Waterloo, IL with my husband, Shawn, our two girls, Evelyn and Vivian, and our goldendoodle, Daisy. We keep super busy with the girl's activities and playdates.
What inspired you to become a surrogate?
Ten years ago, my best friend was struggling with infertility. I hadn't even started my own family yet, but I offered to be her surrogate. Since surrogacy was not an option for her family, they went the adoption route instead and ended up adopting their two beautiful girls. Ever since that moment, surrogacy was something I'd frequently talk about with my family and friends. After realizing our family was complete, I knew I needed to look further into what it would take to become a surrogate. I texted my husband at work and applied the same day. My mind was made up. With so many people I knew facing infertility and due to the fact that I managed to have two very easy pregnancies and deliveries, I knew being a surrogate was right for me!
What has been the most rewarding part of your surrogacy journey?
It's hard to see myself as courageous, when these families who have gone through so many infertility struggles while trying to start a family of their own are the couragous ones. To be able to play a part in their miracle is so rewarding!
How did becoming a surrogate change your life?
Halfway through my first journey I knew I was going to do it again. The relationship I had with the Intended Parents and the fulfillment of helping another family, was so rewarding. I have since become an open book about my surrogacy journey. It is something I am truly passionate about and love to help provide any insight I can to intended parents struggling with fertility or women considering becoming a surrogate. While I didn't have anyone to turn to with questions or direction when I began my journey, I want to be able to provide any knowledge I can to help in this process.
